Freshly returned from the Technical Communication Summit, a panel  of OCSTC members will discuss the latest trends, struggles, and solutions that were presented at the conference.

The panel will be moderated by the effervescent Bianca Szczesniak and consist of the following Summit attendees:

  • Jane Baker
  • Michael Opsteegh
  • Chris Seraideris
  • Matt Sullivan

Join us for what is destined to be a lively and irreverent discussion about hot topics, new methodologies, upcoming tools, and experiences from the Technical Communication Summit.

About the Panelists and Moderator

Jane Baker is a passionate technical communicator. Her career includes contracting, owning her own small business, and working as a sole writer, a team member, and a manager. She is driven to develop clear, concise, and user-friendly documents. She organizes and presents information in easy-to-use and easy-to-understand formats and terms to meet the identified needs. She has had experience in the telecom, financial and healthcare industries.

Michael Opsteegh has been a technical writer in the software and financial services industries since 2004. He is currently a senior technical writer for Eyefinity, and he is a lecturer in the technical and professional communication program at Cal State Long Beach. He holds a master’s degree in English, rhetoric, and composition. He is among the first in the profession to be designated as a Certified Technical Professional Communicator.

Chris Seraidaris has been a technical communicator for more than 25 years, developing user-centered documentation for computer hardware, policies and procedures, and web-based software systems. He applies his advocacy for optimizing user experience in his current position as a Senior Technical Writer at Sony Network Entertainment, where he designs and writes online help and other documents for web-based applications. His interests include: information design, content management and strategy, minimalist writing, and UX design.

Matt Sullivan focuses on the intersection of tech comm, eLearning, and content marketing. In addition to presenting at national conferences on tech comm, he helps folks manage and deliver their content to elearning and mobile platforms. His blog, mattrsullivan.com, has lots of useful information on these topics. Matt is an online trainer for STC, and other national organizations. His classes range from Adobe tools training (FrameMaker, RoboHelp, Captivate), to video production, to online branding via social platforms.

Bianca Szczesniak graduated from UC Irvine with a BA in English and a double minor in business management and Spanish. She has been a technical writer in the safety control and healthcare industries, and she is currently the technical writing manager at RED Digital Cinema in Irvine. She has been an active member of OCSTC since 2012.
